Mt. Vernon Motor Lodge was built for E.B. Walton and R.B. Wagner in the Neocolonial (or Palladian) style. Walton was greatly influenced by elements of President Washington’s famous residence, Mount Vernon–including the two story-porch columns, classical symmetry, hipped roof, and central cupola topped by a spire. Other patriotic lodges were built in Miami, Daytona, and Jacksonville and offered a glimpse of grandeur and luxury to working-class Americans at an affordable price. The West Palm Beach location is now Hotel Biba.
