Volk was commissioned by Swedish industrialist Dr. Axel Wenner-Gren to develop and plan Andros Town at Fresh Creek, and the Lighthouse Club. Wenner-Gren acquired the land on Andros Island, the largest island in the Bahamas, from the Bahamian Government in 1952. Volk utilized local coral rock and sand which he had combined with cement to create the concrete for construction. He employed residents of Cokely Town as well as the neighboring islands to work on the project. In 1954 Andros Town opened and included a hotel and several private residences. The club got its name from an old (defunct) lighthouse built during the 1800s. The club operated for about ten years and closed in the early 1960s.
